Lake Meade Municipal Authority Grinder Usage

Lake Meade Municipal Authority would like to call to your attention the following regulations pertaining to the operation and maintenance of your water/sewer system:

• It is illegal for sump pumps inside of the home to be discharged into the sanitary sewer system. It is mandatory that the electrical circuit from your home to the grinder pump be left on at all times. Infiltration of ground water into the tank may back up into your residence if not pumped out when necessary.
• The red light attached to the control panel of your unit signifies a malfunction when lit. Therefore we request that anyone seeing a light burning immediately notify the Authority at 259-9998 Ext# 1. A service tech will be dispatched to check the system. DO NOT attempt to open the control panel yourself. Occasionally an alarm light may malfunction or burn out. However at the first sign of drainage problems inside of the home the Authority should ALWAYS be your first call for service problems.
• The grinder tank must not be covered with dirt, rocks, or decorative items, and plantings must not be made around or in front of the unit as we must have access in order to preform repair service.
• The water meter lid must be maintained in the same manner to allow access for water meter reading.
• In case of power failure, avoid laundering, bathing, and toilet flushing as much as possible. Storage space in the tank is limited, and excessive use under such conditions may result in back up into your home.
• The system is designed to handle ordinary sewage. Certain trash and grease can cause problems in the system, and could possibly result in costly repairs to the homeowner.
• A lower level drain agreement is on file for each property. This agreement releases Lake Meade Municipal Authority from any damages that may occur in the event of a sanitary back up in your residence. This agreement also transfers to all subsequent property owners; a signed copy of yours is available upon your request.
• Do not put oils or greases into the system. Grease such as cooking oils, tallow, bacon grease, etc., as it will congeal in the lines causing pump malfunction. The use of garbage disposals should be kept to a minimum.
• The following items will cause serious problems in the grinder pump at your residence, our pump stations, and gravity feed lines: diapers/incontinence products, sanitary/baby wipes, “feminine” products of all types and their applicators, rubber and /or latex products, including gloves and condoms, bandages, paper towels, plastic bags, dental floss, and cotton swabs, kitty litter, as well as articles of clothing and the occasional child’s toy. (you may be billed for damages caused by these or other foreign objects flushed into our system)
• If you leave your home for more than a day or two, flush down about 25 gallons of water (5 flushes of the toilet) to assist in keeping the tank and floats clear. This is especially important for our seasonal and weekend residents.

Multiple abuses of the above regulations will result in charges to the customer for cleaning and repairing the system.
